Knitting Ministry

"You created every part of me, knitting me in my mother's womb. For such handiwork, I praise you. Awesome this great wonder!" Psalm 139:13-14

The Long’s Chapel Knitting Ministry evolved from a dream and a pile of donated yarn on June 19, 2003. We are pleased that you have chosen to visit us and learn more about the Knitting Ministry at Long's Chapel. This group is a charity knitting group that seeks to serve God's children in need. Our goal is to bring joy and comfort to the recipients and to let them know that someone is praying and thinking of them.

The following gifts are created and crafted by hand with love, compassion and prayer (for all ages):

  • Hats

  • Sweaters

  • Lapghans for Wheel Chairs

  • Blankets

  • Dressed Teddy Bears

  • Pot Holders/ Dish Cloths

  • Chemo Hats

  • Prayer Stoles

  • Baptismal Blankets

  • Peace Pals

  • Newborn Hats

The charities that we currently distribute our gifts to include:

  • Autumn Care Nursing Home

  • Brian's Center

  • Silver Bluff Nursing Home

  • Spice Cottages

  • Department of Social Services

  • REACH of Haywood County

  • Family Support Network of Region A

  • Tuscola High School

  • Mission Hospital

Each October we have a Blessing of the Gifts. This takes place during the Sunday services at Long's Chapel. We display the gifts we have made and then they are blessed by the minister. After that we distribute the gifts to the charities and begin the cycle again.

The Long's Chapel knitters are working year round to create and distribute items for the ministry. If you have a specific request for someone in need of an item, please contact our Knitting Ministry leader Mary Musgrove at or 510-918-8415.
