We value reaching outside our church walls in Jesus’ name. This is the way we share God’s love with others in our community and beyond.  God is constantly giving us “divine assignments” to reach outward in His name. Seek an opportunity that best matches your heart.

Knitting Ministry

The Knitters at Long's Chapel work on charity knitting. They make sweaters, hats, lap robes, leg warmers, Pea Pods, scarves, shawls, and more. Items go to local community agencies. Email the leader to find out more about this ministry at Long's Chapel.

The Hangout

The Hangout is a free, after school program hosted by Long's Chapel. Children grades K-8 are invited each day to The Hangout where they will receive a free snack, homework help, and access to games, crafts, special activities, reading help, and build relationship with friends and caring adult volunteers.

If you are interested in your child attending The Hangout, please contact the leader to see about availability!

Jail Ministry

Consisting of approximately 30 volunteers across Haywood County, this ministry dedicates time to serve the Haywood County jail. The focus of the group is to develop relationships, teach the scripture, and support inmates through their sentence and beyond release. Long's Chapel has dedicated funds to purchase bibles and assist inmates after release to get back on their feet.

EACH

The EACH (Ending Area Childhood Homelessness) Initiative, Inc. is a caring community of Christian congregations in Haywood County working with a Case Manager employed by The EACH Initiative mobilizing resources to provide transitional housing, support, love and care for single parents and homeless children in crisis. UMCOR

UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters - be it famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events—to alleviate suffering and to be a source of help and hope for those left most vulnerable. We provide relief, response and long-term recovery grants when these events overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on their own. UMCOR also provides technical support and training for partners to address emerging and ongoing issues related to disaster relief, recovery, and long-term health and development. Long's Chapel has a designated account for UMCOR where we give donations as they are received. Visit the UMCOR site to learn more!

Firewood Ministry

In November 2020, this ministry will be 15 years in the making. In the first year, 80 loads of firewood was provided for those in need. In 2018, 268 loads of wood was sent to the community. The Firewood Ministry is YEAR ROUND and welcome volunteers for splitting wood at any time. If you wish to volunteer, or submit someone in need of firewood, please contact the team leader, Richard Reeves.

Christmas Angels

The mission of Christmas Angels is to share the love and joy of the Christmas season for those in less fortunate circumstances in Haywood County. We strive to come along side families, exemplifying the love of Christ.

The Open Door Ministries

Mission Statement: We aim to mitigate food insecurity in Haywood County while restoring hope and self-worth to all who come through our doors, as they encounter the love and delivering power of Jesus Christ.

UMW

United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice. Longs Chapel’s UMW is 100 women strong and looking for new members to join us. If you are a woman who has a heart for service in the name of Christ, you too are a United Methodist Woman! Join us as we keep moving forward to educate, empower and affirm women. As United Methodist Women, we share our resources, money, time, talents and service. This is a witness to how we live as the community of God’s people. Our vision is to turn faith, hope and love in to action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world.

Global Missionaries

Long’s Chapel REACH supports international missionaries in Russia, Nicaragua, Armenia, and North Africa. The Long’s Chapel REACH team has created a “Global Missions Fund” to support adult international missions trips. If you would like to participate in organizing an international missions trip, please contact Tom or Sandy Fogarty.

Loaves & Fishes

Meals are needed from time to time for families who have experienced surgery, loss, sickness, or other situations that make preparation of meals difficult. If you know of someone in need or would like to volunteer to prepare and/or delivery meals, please contact Loaves and Fishes leader Marie West at 828.550.7266 for more information.

First Fruits

First Fruits Ministry began in 2014 by providing snacks to the students at Tuscola and Pisgah High School. In 2020, the direction of this ministry changed. First Fruits now provides daily lunches for students who do not have the financial means to get second helpings of lunch items, or maybe their food account has been used up.  All financial donations will be collected by the church and sent directly to The Haywood County Schools Foundation who will administer and disperse the funds as needed to each school upon request.

The Deaf Ministry

The Deaf Ministry began in 2003 at Long's Chapel with a mission to serve the deaf so they too can know the love of Jesus. This ministry has held Sunday school, deaf choir, and bible studies. At the 9:00 service, an interpreter is always available, including in the live feed on Facebook.

OCC

The world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, Operation Christmas Child, uses gift-filled shoeboxes to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Long's Chapel has an OCC team and collect monthly donations to prepare for the annual Packing Party! In 2019, Long's Chapel prepped and sent 884 boxes!
