Long’s Chapel Child Enrichment Center now accepting applications for new NC PreK Program
The Long’s Chapel Child Enrichment Center (CEC) is excited to announce the recent accomplishment of becoming an NC PreK Program Center. The NC PreK Program is designed to provide high-quality educational experiences to enhance school readiness for eligible four-year-old children. The NC PreK Program requirements are built on the National Education Goals Panel’s premise that to be successful academically in school, children need to be prepared in all five of the developmental domains that are critical to children’s overall well-being and success in reading and math as they enter school. Those focused program methods include play and learning, emotional and social development, health and physical development, language development and communication, and cognitive development.
The CEC is also undergoing an extensive remodeling project. All classrooms will be remodeled by Fall 2020, including fresh paint, new flooring, new rugs, new window coverings, and new furniture. “We are also expanding from seven classrooms to nine classrooms,” comments Belinda Marr, Director of the CEC. The CEC's new facilities also include secured entrances and check-in areas, a brand new indoor playground, a new comforting room for breastfeeding mothers, and an amphitheater area.
“All of it is just really exciting – especially the new indoor playground. We have been working hard with the playground company, fire, sanitation, and state consultant to ensure that everything is approved for the children to have access and enjoy the equipment. It is going to be wonderful to have this available during inclement weather and cold weather days. Outdoor play is just as important; it will not take its place on nice days. It’s great to have this option for play,” continues Marr.
One of the new classrooms being build will be the dedicated NC PreK classroom with a certified teacher through partnering with Region A Partnership for Children and the NC PreK Program.
Enrollment packets will be ready for pick up at the CEC located at 133 Old Clyde Rd, Waynesville, NC 28785 beginning Monday, July 20, 2020, and be due on or before July 31, 2020. For your child to qualify he/she must have turned four on or before August 31 of the program year. NC PreK students will attend the CEC from 8:00 am-3:00 pm daily, with additional care options available from 3:00-6:00 pm if needed. The CEC will have 18 available slots for students – nine of which are paid slots for $650 per month. Students may qualify either financially or academically. Screenings will be scheduled after the application deadline. For any questions about the CEC or the NC PreK Program, please contact Belinda Marr at Belinda.Marr@LongsChapel.com or call 828.476.4153.
