This is the time!
We have been blessed by the generosity and creativity of those who have gone before us. Now, it is our turn to be good stewards and create space that will benefit generations to come. We need a facility that allows us to draw people into community, in our context for ministry, relationships are everything and having space to develop life-giving relationships is essential to our health. We need sufficient and functional state of the art spaces where we can host community events, allow connections and relationships to forge, and for disciples to grow. We need facilities which allow us to achieve our capacity and dedication to serve. There are many ways this campaign and project will benefit those who are already a part of Long’s Chapel. However, this project is not only for the members but also for the community and the people whom we seek to welcome into this amazing family.
Please explore the plans and renderings of the future expansion of the campus.
Frequently asked questions
What is the expansion project supported by Long's Chapel Imagine campaign?
The building will be a community center for our church and Haywood County. The building will feature new children’s space; a gathering area where we can do more than just pass each other in the hallway; new adult discipleship/community meeting space; a new Multi-Purpose Space that will seat 250 at tables and 500 in chairs where church and community events can happen; new ministry office suite where coordination and collaboration of ministry can happen on one floor; a café connected to the gathering space where food hospitality can happen; and classroom areas for Bible study, small groups, and education.
Why is this expansion important now?
The needs of the Children’s Ministry, Child Enrichment Center, classroom availability, enlarged gathering areas, proximate office space, enhanced flow, community service capabilities, and others are current and pressing. We expect facility limitations will only become more challenging over time as demand increases, which could constrain Long’s Chapel’s ability to reach, grow and serve.
What will be the benefits of this campus expansion?
We can grow the Children Enrichment Center and Children’s Ministry beyond their existing capacities, house our staff in one location, provide a central check-in station for children, enjoy a large gathering area for connection between services and events, gain a café, acquire space to house large church and community events, pick up additional classroom and meeting spaces for youth and adults, gain an elevator, get a covered walkway, and acquire an outdoor gathering area with a fire pit.
What do we get with this project that we do not already have today?
We get a building that becomes a community center for our church and Haywood County. We get a new children’s space; a gathering area where we can do more than just pass each other in the hallway; new adult discipleship/community meeting space; a new Multi-Purpose Space that will seat 250 at tables and 500 in chairs where church and community events can happen; new ministry office suite where coordination and collaboration of ministry can happen on one floor; a café connected to the gathering space where food hospitality can happen; and classroom areas for Bible study, small groups, and education.
How much is this campus expansion going to cost?
The estimate for the “turnkey” campus expansion is approximately $7.5 million as presented. This would include all engineering, permitting, site work, construction, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Generous commitments made during the Imagine campaign will be critical to guide the next steps in the project.
How will we repurpose the existing fellowship hall and other space on the campus?
The new buildling will give us flexibility to repurpose exisiting space as some activities shift to the new facilities. There are no current, firm plans on repurposing although there are ongoing conversations of being a good steward of our facility.
What will happen to the worship schedule once we move into the new space?
Long's Chapel made a decision several years ago to have a multi-venue worship strategy in which we would worship in different styles and times around our existing campus. That allows us the greatest flexibility to reach out with different worship styles and minister to different people. No current, firm decisions have been made about the worship plan after the new building is built however, the new multi-purpose space will be best setup to accommodate a modern worship style.
What is the expected finish date?
We are aiming to open the new expansion in July 2020.
