Projects

LCUMC sponsors global, local, and Western North Carolina Conference agencies whose needs are reviewed on a yearly basis.

Global Projects

  • Curamericas - provides for home visits throughout the entire village of Cochabainba, Bolivia where children are given medical screening and treatment.

  • Heifer Project International - alleviates hunger, poverty and environmental degradation by providing livestock and training in their care to needy rural families in the United States and around the world.

  • Emerging Pastors in Colombia - assistance for the training of new church leaders.

  • Health Education for Mothers & Children in Afghanistan - provides needed training in fundamental health practices.

Local Projects

  • Open Door Soup Kitchen - serves 50-60 people each day. Located in Waynesville, Long’s Chapel has been a part of this ministry since its beginning in 1996. Anyone is welcome to come for a free home-cooked meal.

  • Haywood Habitat for Humanity - a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization.

  • Haywood Youth for Christ - provides a Christian example and presence among the youth of our county, especially in the schools, through personal contact and group activities.

  • Haywood Christian Ministry - provides emergency assistance of food, clothing, and referral services to persons in need in Haywood County.

  • Good Samaritan Clinic - provides medical care and assistance to persons without health insurance or Medicaid.

  • Christmas Angels Gift Ministry - provides clothing and toys at Christmas for over 200 Haywood County children in need.

  • Prison Ministry - volunteers to serve at Haywood Correctional Institution and financial support is provided for Yokefellow and Kairos prison ministries in NC.

  • REACH - a non-profit organization that offers assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • KARE (Kids Advocacy Resource Effort) - organizes programs for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

  • Haywood Restoration House - a transitional housing program set up to help homeless people find their way back to productive, safe living.

  • Haywood Senior Services - non-profit agencies that sponsor programs that meet the needs of our growing senior and disabled population.

  • Meals on Wheels - provides hot lunches to seniors and others who may have otherwise gone hungry.

Conference Projects

  • Wesley Foundation at Western Carolina University & Appalachian State University - an outreach on college campuses, providing spiritual guidance and fellowship opportunities.

  • Hinton Rural Life Center, Hayesville, NC - offers training for leaders in town and country churches, and coordinates the work of volunteer-in-missions teams for housing rehabilitation.

  • Missions Response Center, NC  - provides building materials for volunteer building teams which work to repair, rebuild, or build new churches and homes in areas of disaster.
