Missionaries

Long's Chapel sponsors missionaries both directly and through the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.  Support for missionaries through Global ministries is provided by apportionments to the Western North Carolina Conference.  Direct support of missionaries is through special offerings and donations made to Long's Chapel in the name of either Missions or a specific missionary.

Missionaries sponsored directly through special offerings and prayers include:

  • Jonatan Chavez - Pastor Chavez is currently building his congregation in one of the poorest areas of Lima, Peru. In addition to ministering to the faith needs of his community he has also recognized the health and safety needs of his growing congregation. With the assistance of Long's Chapel's mission teams, he has fitted hundreds of people with reading glasses, built facilities for the education of the young, and addressed the unsafe conditions in several of the gang controlled areas.  Pastor Chavez provides regular updates of his activities to the people of Long's Chapel.
  • Paul & Marty Law - D.R. Congo (http://appointmentcongo.org/)
  • Jon & Jessica White - Ethiopia

Those missionaries sponsored through the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries are:

Gavin & Carrie Brown – Bolivia
Carrie Blackburn is currently assigned to the Kory Wawanaca Children’s Home in Bolivia where she is working to establish a home for orphaned children and abandoned/widowed moms and their children. The goal is to make the community self-sustainable through agriculture and farming.

Dwaine Morgan – Missions Response Center, NC
Dwaine Morgan manages the Missions Response (MRC) near Charlotte. He schedules and supervises volunteer teams that prepare items for shipment to Armenia and to the Democratic Republic of Congo, and which send medical equipment to the Dominican Republic. UMCOR relief kits and flood buckets are also collected and shipped around the world.

Andrew & Margaret Howell -
France
Andrew & Margaret Howell minister to families in France, a country whose population is less than one percent Methodist. They offer weekend family retreats and camps for kids. They’ve also developed programs for young adults, and Margaret leads a community Bible study for women.
