Women's Ministries

Women were among Jesus' most devoted followers. On the first Easter morning, it was women who came to anoint his body at the tomb and earned the chance to spread the good news of the Resurrection. Modern women's devotion to Christianity is just as strong - so strong that women are seen as the backbone of many churches and the faith as a whole.

Long's Chapel believes that women's roles are equally important in the life of the church as the role of men;

  • That women and men are created in the image of God with inherent equality of worth before Him. (Gen. 1:26-27)
  • That the sexes are joint heirs with Christ of full salvation. (Gal. 3:28-29)
  • That the Holy Spirit gifts all God’s children for ministry, and that it is His intent to have both men and women involved in the work of the Kingdom. (1 Cor. 12:7; 1 Peter 4:10; Acts 2:17-18; Rom. 16:1-16)

In addition to full equality in all aspects of leadership at Long's Chapel, women may participate in special communities.  These communities, the United Methodist Women (UMW) and the Women of the Vineyard (WOV), provide an additional opportunity for women to express their love of God, perform service, and enjoy fellowship.

The United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women (UMW) are a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The Long's Chapel UMW is an organized unit of the Western North Carolina UMW (www.wnccumw.org/).  Because of the number of women participating at Long's Chapel, our unit of the UMW is organized into "links" (small groups).  This allows for more direct personal involvement in the activities and the opportunity to pursue different interests.  The current links include:

  • Susanna Wesley Link (Meeting time: 1st. Tuesday of each month at 10 am)
  • Link #2 (Meeting time: 1st. Tuesday of each month at 7 pm)
  • Link #3 (Meeting time: 1st. Tuesday of each month at 10 am)
  • The Joy Link (Meeting time: quarterly dinners out)
  • Link #6 (Meeting time: 1st. Tuesday of each month at 10 am)
  • Sisters in Service (SIS) Link (Meeting time: 1st. Thursday of each month at 7 pm)
  • Young Energetic Sisters (YES) Link (Meeting time: 2nd. or 3rd. Wednesday of each month at 10 am)

Current meeting locations can be obtained from the church calendar.

The purpose of the Women of the Vineyard (WOV) is to reach women for becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ by providing a variety of spiritual growth opportunities.  Opportunities include Bible study, mentoring, retreats, times of fellowship and testimony.
