Church Membership

You were designed to be part of a church family.  And that's exactly what Long's Chapel is intended to be, your family!  As a United Methodist Church (UMC), a fellowship of believers, we are part of the Church Universal.  Therefore, all persons, without regard to race, color, national origin, or economic condition are eligible to attend its worship services, to participate in our programs and, when they take the appropriate vows, to be admitted into membership.

To provide you with information about Long's Chapel and the commitment of membership, an "Inquirer's Class" is held approximately once every quarter.  Our pastor leads a discussion on what we believe, how we operate, and the history of our church.  Classes are generally held on a Sunday afternoon/evening, with childcare provided.  At the end of the class, there will be an opportunity for you to decide whether or not to complete the process of membership.  No pressure whatsoever; we want you to be comfortable with whatever you choose.  If you are interested in becoming a member of our church family or just want to learn more about us, please call the church office to sign up for the next available class.

When you unite with Long’s Chapel UMC, you profess your faith in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son, and in the Holy Spirit.  You covenant together with God and with the members of Long’s Chapel to keep the vows which are part of the order of confirmation and reception into the Church.

  1. To confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and pledge allegiance to His kingdom,
  2. To receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments,
  3. To promise according to the grace given you to live a Christian life and always remain faithful members of Christ’s holy Church, and
  4. To be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.
